<p>How far would you go to save the planet? A Brazilian non-profit called <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.sosma.org.br/english.html">SOS Mata Atlantica</a> recently published a public service announcement to encourage people to pee in the shower as a way of conserving water. The group put out a very endearing ad narrated by children’s voices that ends with an emphatic request to &#8220;Pee during shower! Help the <a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.worldwatch.org/node/1709">Atlantic rainforest</a>!&#8221;</p>
<p><object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="400" height="300" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=5859442&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=1&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=&amp;fullscreen=1" /><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="300" src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=5859442&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=1&amp;show_byline=1&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=&amp;fullscreen=1" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></p>
<p>I know that urinating any place other than a bowl might seem a little gross at first, and may even land you in a <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.tv.com/seinfeld/the-wife/episode/2321/summary.html?tag=ep_guide;summary">Seinfeld episode</a> if you attempt this at the gym, but this non-profit says that flushing your toilet one less time per day, saves 1,157 gallons of water each year. That’s one family saving enough water to fill an average-sized <a rel="nofollow" href="http://wetheadmedia.com/eco-friendly-swimming-pool/">swimming pool</a>.</p>
<p>Even if you can admit that peeing in the shower is good for the earth, the <em>ick factor</em> remains. But if you think about it, urine is sterile, so there are no bacteria or viruses going into our water supply. Also, unless you are one of the fortunate few that has a greywater system, water from the shower and the toilet both end up in the same sewer line anyway. Oh, and <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRSP5ZUmxP8">Madonna says</a> peeing on your feet cures Athlete’s foot. The last time I checked, Madonna isn’t exactly a reliable source of scientific data, but it’s something to consider&#8230;</p>
